Crawl Space Insulation in North Idaho

Empire Insulation sprays closed-cell foam on crawl space walls and rim joists across North Idaho. It seals the gaps where cold air gets in under your house, so drafts drop and the floors above lose less heat. Nick Bond quotes your crawl space himself, then sprays it with his own monitored rig.

Stop the cold coming up through your floors

Closed-cell foam on the crawl space walls and rim joists seals out drafts and insulates in one pass, so the rooms above hold their heat better.

What we handle

Seal the crawl space where the cold gets in

Cold floors usually start underneath them. Outside air slips in at the rim joist, the band of framing that sits on top of the foundation wall, and moves through the crawl space under your rooms. In a North Idaho winter that air is cold, and the floor above feels it. Closed-cell foam sprayed on the foundation walls and rim joists insulates and seals those gaps in one pass, so far less cold air reaches the underside of your floor.

Not every crawl space needs the same job. Nick can help you decide whether yours would benefit from being encapsulated or should be insulated more traditionally; that depends on the home and what you want. Empire does the sealing and insulating only. It doesn't do HVAC work or vents, though Nick can offer guidance on proper HVAC and methods.

Nick sprays the job himself with one consistent crew member, so the person who prices your crawl space is the person who sprays it, start to finish.

Most crawl space calls start with a cold floor or a draft. Here is what foam at the perimeter fixes, and what to plan for.

  • Cold floors all winter

Cold air moving under the house chills the floor above it. Sealing and insulating the crawl space walls cuts that air off, so the rooms over it feel warmer.

  • Drafts at the rim joist

The rim joist sits on top of the foundation wall, and gaps there let outside air straight in. Foam seals and insulates that band in one pass.

  • Heat escaping below the house

An open, leaky crawl space lets heat you pay for slip out underneath. Foam on the walls slows that loss. Results still depend on your heating and the rest of the house.

  • Gaps that batts leave open

Spray foam fills the irregular gaps around framing and penetrations, where cut batts tend to sag, shift or leave openings.

  • Encapsulated or insulated traditionally

Nick can help you decide whether your crawl space would benefit from encapsulation or traditional insulation. Empire seals and insulates; it doesn't do HVAC work or vents.

These are Empire's own jobs. Look at the crawl space foam carried up the concrete foundation and into the rim joist bays above plastic ground sheeting, and at how tight the foam runs to the framing elsewhere.

Customer reviews & pricing

  • I've utilized many insulation companies over the years and rarely write reviews, but Nick and his guys did an outstanding job and I would HIGHLY recommend them. Their price was excellent, the work was perfect, and they are extremely clean and organized.

What affects the price

Every crawl space is quoted on its own, and estimates are free. Price follows the wall and rim-joist area, the foam and thickness, the access and the moisture plan, not the size of the house above.

JobWhat affects the quote
Crawl Space Insulation Wall and rim-joist area, access and moisture plan
  • Wall and rim-joist area: The foundation walls and rim joists drive the price, not the floor area above. More perimeter or taller walls mean more foam.
  • Foam type and thickness: Empire installs 2-lb closed-cell and HFO closed-cell foam. Thickness changes the amount of material and the time on site.
  • Access to the space: Tight entries, low clearance and obstructions change how the work is done and how long it takes.
  • Moisture plan and encapsulation: Vapor barriers, added air sealing or full encapsulation widen the scope beyond the walls. Say up front if you want them included.
  • What is already down there: Tell Nick what is already in the crawl space, so the scope is clear before the work is planned.

Questions we get

Should the crawl space walls or the floor above be insulated?

Foaming the walls and rim joists brings the crawl space inside the insulated boundary and seals where the cold air gets in. Insulating the floor above leaves the crawl space outside it, which is a different job. Which fits depends on your foundation, access and how the space stays dry, so talk it through with Nick.

Do you handle the vents or HVAC in a crawl space?

No. Empire seals and insulates the crawl space; it doesn't do HVAC work and doesn't deal with vents. Nick can offer guidance on proper HVAC and methods, and help you decide whether the crawl space would benefit from encapsulation or from more traditional insulation. That depends on the home and what you want.

Will foam fix a damp crawl space?

No. Closed-cell foam resists moisture, but it is not waterproofing, and it does not replace drainage or ground-moisture control. If water collects or the soil stays wet, get that fixed first. Then the foam and any vapor barrier can be planned around a dry space.

Does the foam have to be covered?

Often, yes. Spray foam is combustible, and codes generally call for an approved thermal barrier between foam and occupied space, while some crawl spaces allow an ignition barrier instead. The product, how the space is used and local code decide it.

What happens on spray day?

Nick sprays the foam himself with one consistent crew member and stays on site start to finish. Your household and anyone else stay out of the work area during spraying, cleanup and the product's re-occupancy period. Ask Nick for the return instructions before you pick a date.

What should I send to get an estimate?

Call, text or use the form with your town, the rough size of the crawl space and where you feel the cold. Photos of the walls and rim joists help. Nick gives a rough number from that and a firm quote once he has seen it. Estimates are free, and veterans and service members get a discount that depends on the job.

What happens next

  1. Reach out

Call, text or send the form with your building and what you want insulated.

  2. Rough estimate, then a firm quote

Nick gives a rough number from what you send, then a firm quote once he has seen the job. Simple pole barns can often be quoted remotely.

  3. Clear the building

Move everything you can off the floor and out of the way. If you physically can't, tell Nick and the crew will help.

  4. Spray day and cleanup

Nick sprays the foam with one consistent crew member and stays on site throughout. Jobs are left cleaner than when the crew arrived.
