What we do in Kellogg
Insulating a house that is already standing
Kellogg sits in the Silver Valley along the interstate, east of Empire's base in St. Maries and just down the valley from Wallace, which Empire also serves. If your house has been standing a while, the job is a retrofit: adding insulation to a building with finished walls, so access decides the method. Nick looks at where he can reach the framing, such as the attic, the crawl space, an unfinished basement or a wall that is opened up for a remodel, and starts there.
Empire does not remove old insulation or blow in loose fill. Where an attic or wall is open, closed-cell foam seals the gaps and cracks that let warm air out and cold air in, which counts for a lot through a North Idaho winter. Where moist indoor air reaches cold framing, it can condense; closed-cell slows that vapor at 1.5 to 2 inches.
Shops and garages are simpler: open framing, foam on the walls and roof, and paint on exposed foam if you want a finished look.
Kellogg jobs get closed-cell foam, in 2-lb or HFO. Find your building below and use the service links further down the page.
Retrofit insulation
Foam where there is access in a house that is already built: attics, crawl spaces, rim joists and walls opened up for a remodel.
Closed-cell spray foam
Dense foam with more insulation per inch than open-cell, sealing air leaks in the same pass. Open-cell is available on request.
Attic air sealing
Foam on the attic floor or roof deck seals the leaks that let heat out. A roof-deck job needs a moisture plan first.
Crawl space insulation
Foam on foundation walls and rim joists, with a vapor barrier over the ground. Drainage problems need their own fix.
Shop insulation
A sealed shell for a heated shop: 2 inches on the walls and 3 on the roof is Nick's rule of thumb.
Garage insulation
Foam in garage walls and roofs, with the right barrier where the garage sits next to or under living space.
Pole barn spray foam
Foam between girts and on the panels keeps moist air off the steel and helps control dripping. It does not fix leaks.
Sound control
Foam can go into walls and floors for sound control as well as heat, on its own or in a hybrid package.

I've utilized many insulation companies over the years and rarely write reviews, but Nick and his guys did an outstanding job and I would HIGHLY recommend them. Their price was excellent, the work was perfect, and they are extremely clean and organized.

What affects the price
Empire does not publish prices. Nick gives a rough estimate from your photos and a firm quote once he has seen what he can reach. Estimates are free, and veterans and service members get a discount that depends on the job.
| Job | What affects the quote |
|---|---|
| Closed-Cell Spray Foam | Area sprayed, installed thickness and access |
| Shop & Garage Insulation | Building size, wall and roof area, and how the space is used |
| Pole Barn Insulation | Building size, wall and roof area, and foam thickness |
| Crawl Space Insulation | Wall and rim-joist area, access and moisture plan |
| Attic Insulation | Insulated boundary chosen, area and access |
| New Construction Insulation | Wall and roof area and the build stage |
| Commercial Insulation | Scope, access and time out of the work area |
| Metal Building Insulation | Steel area covered, surface condition and access |
| Retrofit Insulation | Open areas, access and existing materials |
- Access in a finished house: Open attics and crawl spaces are quicker to spray than tight spaces or walls that must be opened by another trade.
- Area sprayed: The square footage of wall, roof deck, rim and floor being foamed sets the price.
- Foam depth: Nick's minimum is 2 inches. Heated shops and cold storage call for different depths.
- Barriers and finish: A required thermal or ignition barrier, or paint on exposed foam, changes the scope. Compare bids on the same items.

Questions we get
Does Empire Insulation work in Kellogg and the Silver Valley?
Yes. Empire serves Kellogg and Wallace from its base in St. Maries, and Nick Bond travels 100+ miles for projects in Idaho. He quotes each job himself, sprays it with one consistent crew member and stays on site until it is done.
Can you add spray foam to my existing house?
Yes, wherever the framing can be reached: attics, crawl spaces, rim joists, unfinished basements and walls opened for a remodel. Foam is not blown into closed walls. Send photos of the areas you can get to, and Nick will tell you what makes sense.
Do you remove old insulation first?
No. Empire does not offer insulation removal or blown-in insulation. If old material has to come out before foam goes on, that is a separate job. Ask Nick what your attic or crawl space needs, and he will tell you before he quotes.
Does foam in my house need a covering?
Usually. Spray foam is combustible, so codes generally require an approved thermal barrier, such as drywall, between foam and living space. Some attics and crawl spaces allow an ignition barrier instead. It depends on the product, the space and local code.
What should I send for a Kellogg estimate?
The address, what the building is, how it is heated, the areas you want insulated and photos of the attic, crawl space or framing. Nick gives a rough number from that and a firm quote after seeing it. Estimates are free.
