What we do in Moscow
Farm buildings, metal shops and the steel that sweats
Moscow is the Latah County seat and home of the University of Idaho, south of Empire's base in St. Maries and a short way west of Troy, which Empire also serves. If your building out of town is steel or pole-framed, such as an equipment barn, a metal shop or storage, the winter problem is the same one Nick sees across North Idaho: warm, moist air inside meets the cold panels, condenses and drips. Closed-cell foam sprayed right onto the steel keeps that air off the metal; fiberglass cannot do that job against a roof deck.
How deep depends on use. Cold storage usually gets 4 to 6 inches; a heated shop about 2 on the walls and 3 on the roof. Shipping containers used for storage or a workspace get the same treatment on their steel walls and roof.
In town, the work is homes and commercial space. Commercial jobs can run at night and on weekends, and Empire offers an intumescent thermal-barrier coating where a building calls for one. An application report showing how much foam went on and at what ratio is available on request.
Moscow-area jobs get closed-cell foam, in 2-lb or HFO. Here is how it fits each building type, with the service links further down.
Pole barn spray foam
Foam between the girts and purlins and onto the panels. Simple pole barns can often be quoted from photos and dimensions.
Metal building insulation
Closed-cell bonds to steel and stops the air that makes it sweat. It helps control condensation but does not repair roof leaks.
Shop insulation
A heated shop needs a sealed shell so the heat stays in; foam fills around posts, girts and doors.
Closed-cell spray foam
Roughly R-6 to R-7 per inch, air sealing and a vapor-retarding layer in one pass. Open-cell is available on request.
Shipping containers
Foam on the steel walls and roof turns a container into insulated storage or a workspace.
Commercial insulation
Storefronts, offices and industrial space, sprayed after hours if needed. Intumescent thermal-barrier coating is available.
Homes and crawl spaces
Attics, crawl spaces and rim joists in existing homes, with vapor barriers or encapsulation where the crawl space needs them.
New construction
Foam in open walls and roofs before drywall. Occupied rooms then need an approved thermal barrier over the foam.

I've utilized many insulation companies over the years and rarely write reviews, but Nick and his guys did an outstanding job and I would HIGHLY recommend them. Their price was excellent, the work was perfect, and they are extremely clean and organized.

What affects the price
Empire does not publish a price list. Nick gives a rough estimate from what you send and a firm quote once he has seen the job, and simple pole barns can often be quoted without a visit. Estimates are free.
| Job | What affects the quote |
|---|---|
| Closed-Cell Spray Foam | Area sprayed, installed thickness and access |
| Shop & Garage Insulation | Building size, wall and roof area, and how the space is used |
| Pole Barn Insulation | Building size, wall and roof area, and foam thickness |
| Crawl Space Insulation | Wall and rim-joist area, access and moisture plan |
| Attic Insulation | Insulated boundary chosen, area and access |
| New Construction Insulation | Wall and roof area and the build stage |
| Commercial Insulation | Scope, access and time out of the work area |
| Metal Building Insulation | Steel area covered, surface condition and access |
| Retrofit Insulation | Open areas, access and existing materials |
- Building use: Cold storage and heated space take different depths of foam, and depth drives how much material goes on.
- Steel and framing area: The quote follows the wall and roof area sprayed, not the floor footprint.
- Coatings: Paint on exposed foam or an intumescent thermal-barrier coating adds scope. Make sure every bid covers the same items.
- Scheduling: Commercial jobs sprayed at night or on weekends are planned around when the space can be cleared.

Questions we get
Does Empire Insulation work in Moscow?
Yes. Empire is based in St. Maries and also serves Troy, and Nick Bond travels 100+ miles for projects in Idaho. He quotes each Moscow job himself, sprays it with one consistent crew member and stays on site until it is done.
Will spray foam stop condensation in my metal building?
Closed-cell foam on the panels keeps warm, moist air off the cold steel, which is what makes it sweat. In the right assembly it helps control condensation. It will not fix roof leaks, and ground moisture under the slab still needs its own plan.
Can you insulate a shipping container?
Yes. Shipping containers are on Empire's project list. Closed-cell foam on the steel walls and roof insulates and seals the inside in one pass. Tell Nick how the container will be used, heated or not, and he will suggest a depth.
Can I get proof of how much foam went on?
Yes, on request. Nick's Graco rig monitors the mix ratio, which is meant to be one-to-one, and he can provide an application report showing how much foam was sprayed and the ratio. Commercial clients ask for it most.
What should I send for a Moscow estimate?
The address, building type and size, whether it is heated, the walls and roof to foam and photos of the framing or steel. Simple pole barns can often be quoted without a site visit. Every estimate is free.
